KEYAPI
NewslettersThe KEYAPI newsletter was established in 1970 at United Tribes Employment Training Center (UTETC). Articles were written by students in communication classes as part of their Personal Development coursework. Letter-sized copies, mimeographed front-to-back, were published by the Business Clerical Department. The title KEYAPI is a Lakota word pronounced GAY-AH-PEE, which translates to the phrase “that is said,” and which carries the slang meaning “gossip.” According to a student of the time, college employee Don Hart selected the name. The publication was also affectionately referred to as the “Tiny Bud” Tribune, a reference to Theodore “Tiny Bud” Jamerson, the training center’s first executive director. Copies are missing from this collection.
